Meet Dr. Asha Tota-Maharaj
Dr. Asha Tota-Maharaj, MD, is a primary care physician who is board certified in internal medicine. She is an active member of the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Tota-Maharaj earned her medical degree from the University of West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago before completing Internal Medicine residency at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Her energy and drive for providing exemplary, personalized care is embodied in her compassionate bedside manner and communication skills. Her personal mantra, paraphrased from William Osler, the modern father of American Medicine, is "listen to the patient, and he will tell you the diagnosis". This classic style, fused with her office's contemporary digital and electronic outlook complement her delivery of high-quality medical care in a compassionate, patient-centered atmosphere.
Dr Tota-Maharaj has a passion for teaching and academia, and previously served as assistant clinical professor of medicine at the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine, Quinnipiac University in North Haven, Connecticut, and as a clinical instructor in Primary Care at the Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut.
She has won numerous awards for academic excellence in primary care medicine and patient safety.
Outside of work, Dr. Tota-Maharaj enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, a good beach and travelling to different islands in the Caribbean.
